A common framework for agriculture and land use in the nationally determined contributions

Understanding current NDC priorities and support needs is critical to upscaling climate action in 2020 and ensuring a progressive cycle of ambition over time. This working paper identifies five core NDC pillars and sub-components specific to the AFOLU sector based on a global stocktaking of NDCs and alignment with the Enhanced Transparency Framework of the Paris Agreement. It can serve as a framework for formulating NDC priorities, planning processes and support needs in the AFOLU sector, as well as a comparative benchmark for highlighting gaps and entry-points for ambition raising in future NDC revisions.
